Privacy Policy

Who we are

TaxLawyer.com (“TaxLawyer,” “we,” “our,” “us”) provides legal information and services to people in the United States and Canada. This policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect personal information when you use our website or contact us.

What this policy covers

This policy applies to personal information collected through our website and through our intake and communication channels. It does not replace confidentiality and privilege obligations owed to clients. Where those obligations conflict with a privacy request, we will follow the professional rules and laws that apply to us.

Information we collect

  • You provide it: contact details, inquiry content, engagement details, billing information, documents you upload, and preferences.
  • Collected automatically: IP address, device and browser info, pages viewed, and timestamps via server logs and cookies. IP addresses can be personal information under Canadian law when combined with other data.
  • From others, with your authorization or as permitted by law: referrals, co-counsel, service providers, publicly available sources, or opposing parties during a matter.

How we use information

  • Respond to inquiries and deliver services you request.
  • Conflict checks, file opening, client onboarding, and matter management.
  • Work with co-counsel or local counsel in the United States and with other service providers (for example, expert witnesses, e-discovery, cloud hosting, IT support, analytics, and payment processing).
  • Website operation, troubleshooting, security, analytics, and to improve content.
  • Meet legal, regulatory, insurance, accounting, and professional obligations.

When we share information

We share personal information as needed with:

  • Co-counsel and local counsel in the U.S. or Canada to provide services you request.
  • Service providers under contractual confidentiality and security obligations.
  • Experts, consultants, auditors, insurers, and professional advisors.
  • Courts, regulators, or law enforcement when required by law or to protect rights.
  • Business transfers if we undergo a reorganization.
We do not sell personal information. We also do not “share” personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising as defined by California law. If this changes, we will update this policy and provide required opt-out links and signals.

International and cross-border transfers

We serve the U.S. and Canada. Your information may be stored or processed in either country or in other jurisdictions where our trusted providers operate. We take steps designed to protect your information consistent with this policy and applicable law, and we require recipients to do the same.

Your choices and rights

Your rights depend on where you live. They may include the right to access, correct, delete, or limit certain uses of your information.

  • Canada: We handle personal information in line with Canada’s private-sector privacy laws, including PIPEDA and applicable provincial laws. You can request access and correction and ask questions about our practices.
  • Quebec: We publish a privacy policy in clear language and identify a person responsible for personal information. You can exercise rights available under Law 25.
  • United States: Certain states, including California and Colorado, provide rights to access, correct, delete, and opt out of targeted advertising or “sale/share.” We honor browser-based opt-out signals where required, such as Global Privacy Control.

How to exercise your rights

Email info@taxpage.com with the subject line “Privacy Request.” Tell us what you want to do, and include enough detail so we can verify your identity. If an appeal process is required by your state (for example, Colorado), we will tell you how to appeal our decision.

Cookies and analytics

We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use our site so we can improve content and usability. Google Analytics uses cookies, and information may be processed on Google servers in the United States. You can:

  • Install Google’s opt-out add-on: https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout/
  • Adjust your browser to refuse or delete cookies. Some features may not work as intended if you do.
If we ever use advertising technologies that qualify as a “sale” or “share,” we will provide the required Do Not Sell or Share and Limit Sensitive Information options and honor recognized signals such as GPC.

Security

We use administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect personal information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure. If the law requires us to notify you of a breach, we will do so in line with applicable requirements.

Retention

We keep personal information only as long as necessary for the purposes above, to comply with legal and professional obligations, or as otherwise permitted by law. Retention periods can vary by matter type and jurisdiction.

Children’s privacy

Our site is for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Under California law, we also do not sell or share personal information of consumers under 16.

Communications and sensitive data

If you email info@taxpage.com or submit a form, we use your information to respond. Unless stated otherwise on a specific page, regular email and many web forms are not encrypted. For your protection, avoid sending highly sensitive numbers or full identity documents through unsecure channels.

Third-party sites and social media

Our social accounts are public and hosted by third parties, not by TaxLawyer. Your use of those platforms is subject to their terms and privacy policies. They may collect information about you according to their rules.
